Trip to Darfur
Rep. James McGovern has been on a congressional visit to Darfur.

Rep. McGovern received extra credit for co-sponsoring the China Resolution on Darfur in 2007.
Additional Information
Rep. McGovern signed on to Rep. Higgin’s February 12, 2008 letter to President Bush. The letter encourages the President to increase the U.S. diplomatic effort on Darfur.
In response to the release of the Darfur scorecard, Rep. McGovern said: “The genocide in Darfur continues, and so must our outrage. I want to commend the Genocide Intervention Network for their outstanding leadership on this issue, and I will continue to work in Congress to raise awareness and action to stop the massacre of innocents in Darfur.”
On April 28, 2006, Rep. McGovern organized and coordinated the protest and arrest of himself, four of his House colleagues — Reps. Olver, Moran, Lantos and Jackson-Lee — and five religious and student leaders, in front of the Sudanese embassy in Washington, DC. It was conducted to bring increased awareness and media attention to the genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
On April 30, 2006, he attended the Save Darfur Rally in Washington, DC, with his two children.
On May 11, 2006, Rep. McGovern was the co-chair and founder of the House Hunger Caucus, chairing a briefing for members of Congress and congressional staff on the international food aid crisis in Darfur. Panelists included officials from USAID and the UN World Food Program. The briefing was also attended by Reps. Schakowsky, Osborne and Payne and over 60 congressional staff.
He is a member of the House Sudan Caucus.
